MATT DUNNE LOSES TO INCUMBENT IN LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR’S RACE

Washington, DC – Twenty-First Century Democrats is disheartened by Matt Dunne’s loss in Vermont’s Lieutenant Governor Race. Dunne was one of 34 candidates endorsed by Twenty-First Century Democrats, the nation’s 13th largest political action committee, during the 2006 election cycle.

“We are proud to have endorsed Matt Dunne this election season,” said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. “Although Matt did not win today, we know that he will continue to fight for progressive ideals and motivate people to action in his community. We look forward to working with Matt again in his future endeavors.”

Dunne’s race against incumbent Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie quickly became far more competitive than what was originally expected. Dunne’s dynamic charisma helped his campaign gain momentum and name recognition, and he ran his campaign based on plans to wage a war against poverty, expand access to the internet, reform funding of higher education, and create a mandatory preschool educational program all throughout the state.

The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. “We are bringing the Democratic Party back to the people, and we’re making it a party of movement again,” said Young. “We need strong risk-takers to once again stand up for what they believe in, share their vision with America, and motivate millions of citizens to become active in their communities. Matt Dunne is the type of leader who can generate bold ideas that cross ideological lines, express our values, and solve problems that are facing our world today.”
